Its been a long weekend.

I would like to sum it up in an image:

Can Berkol

My love for photography significantly increases every day. Check out this great Turkish photographer.

www.redbubble.com

I have spent the past three days entirely online; mostly following Photoshop/InDesign tutorials and trying to finish up a catalogue I'm working on. During my "breaks" I've stumbled across a lot of great things within the online art/photography community. One site I want to share is red bubble ,an Australian-based, online community for anybody to quickly upload their art/design/writing and have it viewed and/or sold with ease. I know there are many sites like this but the simple design, quirky welcome message and user-friendly interface really stood out.

I am really looking forward to seeing this!

I Have a Degree in Philosophy

When stated, I think it sounds romantic; when thought about, it sometimes sounds silly. I entered that program at 18. It was my alternative choice from art school and my going to Ottawa to complete this endeavour turned out to be the right decision for a variety of important reasons.

However, two years later, after all is said, done, read and written, I find myself constantly scouring interesting programs within Toronto's colourful arrangement of colleges. I'm looking for something direct, forward-thinking, creative and most of all: practical. I find that school is a not only a great place to learn but also a good place to meet others with ideas who are committed to action. I feel that this would suit me well right now.

I have considered (and applied to) everything from Graphic Design to Book Publishing to Advertising Copywriting. I have a strong desire to master something technical yet I want it to be consistent enough with my interests so I can mold my skill set into a field that matters to me.

Which field is that you ask? If only I could specify.
(Brace yourself) I'd like something that combines creativity, planning, innovation, global sustainability and an opportunity to collaborate with like-minded, forward-thinking individuals from a variety of cultures. I'd also like it to involve books and have all this underneath the umbrella of making the world a better place. :)

All this background info brings me to the remarkable post-grad program I have come across today. It is offered at George Brown in the Faculty of Design.

From their website:

"The Institute without Boundaries is a centre of research and learning focused on design innovation and inter-professional collaboration...At the Institute, we see the designer as a problem solver with the ability to effect positive change for humanity. We envision a place where students, teachers, industry and community experts can come together not only as creators and designers, but also as ambassadors of hope. We imagine how to live, learn, work, and play together as a global community. Our goal is to find alternative development patterns and a viable path to a bright future."

I may have hit the jackpot. Unfortunately, I have missed the deadline for September '09 admissions but I can use my time wisely to find out all I can about what they're about and really focus my previous achievements to come up with an impressive application package.

Wish me luck!

The Math of Beauty

Welcoming myself to the web. It's interesting to me to document pieces of my life but I'm unsure if it will be interesting to you. I suppose that is the beauty* of it. My first instinct suggests that this is a quest for self-validation disguised as a popular activity but maybe there really is more. Maybe it's a great way to stay current and/or interesting. Maybe it's a way to make a point. Let's see; starting now.
